Aging,mature skin and wrinkles

Over time, the appearance of the skin changes. This transition is gradual. There is no age limit when the skin may be considered mature. Mature skin presents slight skin thinning, color changes, dermis alterations, decreased elasticity and moisture, discoloration, wrinkles and sagging. Aging is a normal process that happens to every person over time. Aging can be characterized as age related or genetic. The first is due to the passage of time, while the second is due to each person’s genetic material. There is also a third category of aging, photoaging, which refers to skin alterations from chronic exposure to sunlight.

The effects of aging on the skin are numerous...

  • The epidermis gets thinner.
  • The regeneration speed of the stratum corneum decreases and the cohesion of the cells is reduced.
  • The production of collagen and elastin from the dermis decreases, resulting in reduced elasticity.
  • We suffer increased water loss, often resulting in dryness and dehydration.
  • The skin's resistance to solar radiation is reduced, resulting in hyperkeratosis and discoloration.
  • We also have changes in the skin components, such as discoloration and hair loss.

Wrinkles are the most characteristic and debated sign of aging. The presence of wrinkles on the face is, of course, normal, but their severity depends on additional aggravating factors, such as skin quality, lifestyle, exposure to solar radiation, care or lack thereof and finally heredity.

Face wrinkles are categorized into:

  • Orthostatic: Congenital lines and folds, found in areas where excess skin is functionally necessary to perform normal movements.
  • Dynamic or expression lines: These lines are created by the vertical pull exerted by the underlying muscle of expression on the skin where it rests.
  • Gravity Wrinkles: These are due to gravity and skin sagging and can also appear on other parts of the face.

Aesthetic science and Cosmetology aim to prolong the appearance of aging symptoms. Experts recommend thorough skin hydration from an early age and sun protection. From the age of 25 onwards, when the reduction in collagen and elastin production begins, cosmetics should be fortified with anti-aging active ingredients. From 30 years onwards, we proceed to targeted antiaging and firming solutions.

The cosmetic preparations we use upon aging should:

  • Moisturize the skin.
  • Nourish
  • Prevent its further atrophy.
  • Activate the synthesis of new essential elements.
  • Strengthen its natural defense against external attacks.
  • Replenish the biological substances that are normally found in the skin but have decreased with age.
