SKIN MOISTURIZATION

Unfortunately, skin hydration is often not considered as important as immediate tightening or wrinkles smoothing. However, skin hydration is one of the most important chapters of Aesthetic Science. What exactly does it mean for our skin to be hydrated? Why is it so important? Let's take a look at what really goes on...
Our skin is made up of 5 layers which, from the inside out, are: a. the basal layer, b. the stratum spinosum, c. the granular layer, d. the clear layer and, finally, e. the stratum corneum. So, the outer layer of our skin that comes into contact with the environment is the stratum corneum. Under normal conditions, the moisture of the basal layer is around 70% and gets slowly transferred upwards to the other layers. Once moisture reaches the stratum corneum, it escapes to the external environment through evaporation. So, on the one hand we have the normal course of the skin moisture from the basal layer and on the other hand we have its evaporation to the environment, once it reaches the stratum corneum. When the moisture of the stratum corneum is too low, the skin turns dry and rough. Advanced moisture loss causes a skin disease called dehydration. Of course, our skin, like the entire human mechanism, possesses two strong guardians protecting us from it, the acid mantle and the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). The acid mantle is a continuous membrane located on the surface of the skin. This mantle plays a very interesting role because, on the one hand, it largely preserves transdermal water loss and, on the other hand, it protects the skin from bacterial and micro-organism reactions. NMF is found within the stratum corneum and contributes significantly to preventing water loss towards the environment. The acid mantle and NMF are determining factors in maintaining healthy – looking skin. However, they are not invincible either! The normal skin moisture can unfortunately be disturbed by many enemies: the environment (sun or cold), the wrong use of cosmetics or treatments, various diseases, smoking, poor nutrition, stress, excessive water use and aging and photoaging. So, you understand how important it is to keep our skin hydrated! And one last thing, no anti-aging, firming cream or treatment works when the skin is not adequately hydrated! Skin4sin cosmetic products have a high content of softening and moisturizing substances that bind and retain the skin moisture, creating a film that prevents it from evaporating into the environment.
